Glitter goes glam
A spirited crowd, pretty models, soul-stirring music and beguiling jewels the JJS fashion show, held on Saturday evening had everything to cheer up Jaipurites on a cold winter evening, while introducing style mavens of the city to the latest international trends in jewellery designs.
The honorary secretary of the event Rajiv Jain kick started the event by introducing members of JJS and welcoming the chief guest of the evening, Bina Kak, a multi-faceted personality and now a minister in the new cabinet.

We wanted someone who is really famous, bold and beautiful as the chief guest of the show. Some were suggesting a film star, while others were suggesting a politician. The best choice we could make was Bina Kak and here she is, among us, as a part of our team, convenor of JJS, Vimal Chand Surana, explained.
Dressed in a striking black embroidered salwaar kameez, Kak exuded oodles of charm as she addressed the guests saying, I am really glad to be a part of this gala evening. We will ensure that together we will work to take this trade further and let it blossom in its full vigour. In fact, the recession notwithstanding, JJS has seen impressive participation from jewellers from across the country, even this year. Jain thanked Sarah Cort of the Tanzanite Foundation for supporting the promotion of tanzanite in the state and invited her on stage to release the poster of next years show which too will have tanzanite as its theme.
In the opening sequence of the show, one saw models present pure gold collection studded with rose cut diamonds which was a treat for the eye and left fashionistas raving for more. Even as the models set the ramp ablaze, child prodigy from Rajasthan Ashraf Khan stole everyones heart as he sang praises of his home state. As he sang padharo mare des and nimbuda, he left the audience spellbound. There were models walking in designs studded with pearls, diamonds and other colourful stones as percussionist and drummer Mukul Dongre took the guests on an exciting musical sojourn.
There were a lot of fashion tips for ladies to pick up as models showed off the swankiest and most alluring designs that included neckpieces and ear-rings studded with sparkling white diamonds and precious stones in floral and geometrical patterns, even as saxophonist Jerald Woody from New Zealand held the audience captive with an enthralling performance.
